As some of you might have been aware, our grand mare, Seainta, has been battling a tumour in her near side hind which has greatly affected her quality of life. We have been nursing her along as she was in foal to Dawn Approach and it was to be her last foal.
In the early hours of Friday morning Seainta’s waters broke but we soon realised the foal was in the wrong position. With the aid of Phil and Jaco, our vet, we were able to deliver a filly foal. Unfortunately from the start the foal struggled and even with constant care and veterinary treatment she died just before lunch on Sunday. It was then decided that there was no need for Seainta to suffer any longer and she was euthanised last week, and was buried near the house where a garden and plaque will be placed.
Without her, Grandview would not exist, as she put us on the map with the deeds of her progency that have raced to date. Dodging Eddie, Ginger Express, Frightening Bolt and Sophie’s Destiny all winners with the best of them being Dodging Eddie the winner of $182,000.
She has 2 more foals left hopefully to keep her 100% record intact. A 3yr old filly by Lucas Cranach and a yearling colt by Fiorente. Her progeny have given a lot of people joy and we hope more joy is still yet to come.
She will be sadly missed by the Grieve family and all at Grandview.
On a happier note, Glennie West a resident Grandview mare has foaled down a Better Than Ready foal. Her first foal, Fox Force Five, won impressively on Saturday at the Gold Coast in class record time.
In what has been a sweet start to the racing season, Jet Spur has certainly started this season off with an absolute bang!
The John Zielke-trained Hopes Eternal has lead the way, with a race record win in the Pat O'Shea Plate at Toowoomba and if possible, an even more outstanding win at Doomben. There are lofty goals for Hopes Eternal with Zielke looking towards the Brisbane Winter Carnival for the promising 2YO.
Jet Spur currently sits 4th nationally on the 2YO Sires table. An outstanding achievement for the ever-consistent QLD Champion.
Well it's that exciting time of the year when we prep up our early season Two Year Old's ready for the Magic Millions 2YO's in Training Sale.
This is a sale that we have enjoyed growing success at, and we very much look forward to coming here every year. This particular sale continues to grow itself, producing Group 1 winners year after year. There's definitely plenty of value to be found with runners who have a close proximity to racing.
The team have enjoyed their first prep at Magic Millions stables with some quality breeze ups from some featured 2YO's.
We have a terrific 16-lot group of 2YO's going to this years sale. With progeny from leading sires such as Fastnet Rock, Star Witness, More Than Ready.
From the group that have already breezed up all have performed well and were very professional, there were 2 particular standouts that good judges already have their eye on. A Star Witness Chestnut Colt who is striking to view and very pleasing to watch, stopped the clock in 10.62 for his 200m in an outstanding gallop.
Also a Rothesay brown colt came home in 10.93 on what was a very hot day running into as gale force headwind, he performed terrifically well. See their Breeze Ups below.

The continued support of Grandview resident stallions by owners sending their quality mares is very exciting to see. We had an exciting weekend watching several well related horses run very well.
Quite Canny, a Grandview resident, is a half sister to the very exciting racehorse, Royal Symphony. (Do yourself a favour and watch his win below, I still don't know how he won that!) Quite Canny has been served by Under the Louvre in what looks a very exciting match and will no doubt be followed up by good judges.
We also keenly watched Nieta run a terrific race in the Shorts in Sydney where she placed 3rd in a very hot race, with the likes of English and Chautauqua behind her. Nieta's mare, Brookton Flash resides at Grandview and has been served by speed sire Whittington. Again, good judges will be all over this resultant progeny breed for speed and no doubt early on their career.
It's also worth noting that Jet Spur currently sits in 2nd place for winners on the QLD Sires list, just 1 winner behind the leader!
We'd love to have your mare visit Grandview Stud....
The team at Grandview wishes to thank all who came out to the Stallion Parade and Open Day yesterday. It was by far the largest turn out we have had at the farm which is a testament to the quality of stallions that we are serving at Grandview.
There was a terrific response to the buzz freshman sire, Under the Louvre. He was magnificently turned out on the day and is a real athletic specimen. It is no wonder QLD and interstate breeders are very excited about his prospects.
Whittington turned on a real show. So powerfully built, he impressed many with his physique and power base strength. It was also great to see some of his progeny on the ground.
And Jet Spur, not be outdone, looked in fantastic order with his chestnut coat glistening in the sun. The 2015 Champion Sire has had several winners within the last week, looks likely to challenge again. And looking at him, there's plenty more to come.
Thanks again to all who came out, and a special mention to the Grandview family & team for supporting what was a terrific day.
For those breeders with enquiries about who to best place your mare with, please feel free to contact us.
We have a couple of shares available in a very special filly.
This filly is particularly special as she is out of a winner bred by the farm, in fact was our very first broodmare, Seainta.
This is her 5th foal with her first 4 foals all getting to the races and all winners.
Dodging Eddie – 6 wins -$182,800
Ginger Express – 3 wins - $27,500
Frightening Bolt – 5 wins - $95,400
Sophie’s Destiny – won her first start.
She's a gorgeous filly, affectionally known as Sally. She is currently a 2yr old filly that went back into training at the moment with Michael Nolan. This is her second preparation at the trainers after having 2 other preparations since being broken in. She has never been an overly big filly but continues to grow with each preparation. I spoke to Michael Nolan this morning and he was very happy with the way she had grown since she was last there.
She is in the second pair, closest to the camera.
Lucas Cranach was the winner of 6 races including the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes over 1800m and 3rd in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup
As the breeding suggests she is expected to be a staying filly and is to be set for the Queensland Oaks as a 3yr old filly if she is good enough she is certainly bred to run the trip.
Shares will be available at 5% for $2,200 incl GST or 10% at $4,400 incl GST
Please feel free to contact us and also please feel free to pass this email onto anyone you may feel is interested.
Only 40% remains available.
